DETAILS OF HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM IN EUROPE
HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM
Below are some facts about the country’s higher education system.- EU countries’ higher education is focused on innovation, creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning.
- More than 2,725 higher education institutions are currently providing education facilities to students from all over the world.
- Almost every university offers bachelor’s, master’s, MPhil, and Ph.D. degrees in subject areas such as science, the arts, business, engineering, medicine, etc.
- The research facilities of European universities are globally famous.
- The standard timelines for a bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. are 4, 2, and 3 years, respectively. There are two intakes for international students: September and January. However, this varies according to the respective country’s policy.
- Most of the undergraduate courses are taught in the respective country’s language. And the postgraduate courses are taught in English and the national languages.
- Some EU countries, such as Germany, Norway, and Finland, provide free education to international students.

- There are several scholarships available for Bangladeshi students, including university scholarships, government scholarships, and non-government scholarships.
- Some EU countries offer scholarships specifically for Bangladeshi students.
- Financial assistance is highly competitive to get, and the governing bodies maintain a strict policy. To get one, you have to prove academic excellence, value extracurricular activities, have an effective future plan after graduation, etc.
- In countries that require tuition fees, the scholarship amounts range from 1,000 to 15,000 euros per year. Whereas, in EU countries in which you do not need to pay tuition fees, the scholarship amounts range from 300 euros to 890 euros per month. However, the amount depends on the institute, level of education, scholarship type, excellence, etc.
COST OF STUDY IN EUROPE
The total cost includes two segments: tuition fees and living costs. Here, we’ve provided a comprehensive point of view regarding the expenses of a Bangladeshi student studying in an EU country.
- For undergraduate study in the EU, tuition fees range from 9,000 € to 25,000€ per year.
- For postgraduate study in the EU, tuition fees range from 7,000 € to 30,000€ per year.
- For certificate and university preparation courses in the EU, tuition fees range from 4,500 € to 12,000 € per year.
- For language courses, the per unit fee ranges from 750 € to 1,500 €

- For accommodations in university residence halls, the monthly cost ranges from 550 € to 2,500 €. And for staying outside of town (self-arranged), the monthly rental fees range from 250 € to 800 € (mostly on a sharing basis).
- Monthly food costs: 120 € to 300 €. However, these costs depend on personal habits. Home cooking certainly allows for a handsome amount of money-saving.
VISA APPLICATION PROCESS
Like the university admissions process, the visa application process (Schengen visa) for any EU country is more than critical. We highly recommend that Bangladeshi students who are willing to study in the EU take professional HELP.

- Prepare the following documents: an acceptance letter, a passport with a minimum of six-month validity, a NID or birth certificate, two recent photos, proof of ability to bear the associated costs, a health insurance policy (check the country’s requirement), etc.
- In general, the visa application fee is 80 €.
- Check the respective country’s visa guidelines for submitting an application.
- Pay the visa application fees by using an international credit card or via bank transfer.
- Make an appointment.
- Go to the respective application center to submit documents. Please note that many EU countries do not have any embassies or visa application centers in Bangladesh. In such cases, you have to travel to India to get a visa.
- Provide biometric details and submit your passport along with all the documents.
- Follow up with the respective visa application center or embassy and follow the prescribed methods of communication.
- Collect the passport with the visa stamp.
